Northern Saints Trails
The Northern Saints Trails are four new pilgrim routes in the UK and all pass through County Durham, finishing at Durham Cathedral. I have been working with people during the last three years to develop these routes.
One of the walks , The Way Of Life, passes through Ingleton, as it starts in Gainford and follows a route of about 28 Miles to Durham Cathedral.
All the routes are to be walked by the Bishop of Durham this year and we are planning School Relay walks.
Official Launch
On Sunday March 28th all the walks will be officially launched at a special service at St Mary’s Church, Gainford at 3pm, outdoors. ( this had all been planned last year but had to be postponed due to the pandemic).
On Monday 29th March the Bishop of Durham will walk the Way Of Life. He will pass through Ingleton at about 11am and there will be a short service outside St John’s Church in Ingleton.
All are welcome to attend the services at Gainford and at Ingleton ( outside with Covid restrictions – masks and social distance).
If you would like to follow the Bishop of Durham along the Way of Life from Ingleton that morning then we will take a route north out of Ingleton on the path left between houses at the Darlington end of the village north to West Leaside, Hindberries, Hummerbeck and then to West Auckland and finishing at Escomb .
(If you do not wish to walk that far you can easily turn back at either Hilton or Hilton Moor and follow a circular route on return.)
The walk will continue from Escomb to Durham Cathedral on Tuesday 30th March.
Markers are now situated all along the Way Of Life to guide you if you ever would like to walk the route.
Further information can be found at this website
Enjoy walking and we look forward to seeing you along the route sometime ( or exploring the other Pilgrim Walks ) .
Best wishes,
Judith Pressley ( Co ordinator – Way Of Life)
